Food-Made Lettering
by Anne Kostecki
I had the unique opportunity to create hand lettering for a food charity-related article in a magazine - and the client requested lettering made out of condiments! I had never done anything like this before. I collected the food items mentioned in the story for the styling, and plenty of ketchup and mustard. Luckily, I have a food styling kit that include a fine-tip syringe for sauces and dressings. I used the syringe to write the lettering on pieces of folded wax paper. I found that a calligraphy look was the easiest to create and read, since the ketchup and mustard had low viscosity. Once each word was on a separate wax paper, I arranged the words into a composition, and took lots of photos. The result looked fantastic in the magazine!
