Watercolor Baptism Invitation
by Anne Kostecki
After my daughter was born, I saw a beautiful baptism invitation when I was scrolling through Pinterest one day, and it inspired me to create my own version. I started this project months in advance, because I knew what I wanted to do would take a while. I decided to paint a large floral cross, and wanted it to be abundant with a variety of white florals and eucalyptus. I found a variety of photos of beautiful white and green bridal bouquets, and imagined fitting them together. I sketched the horizontal flowers first, then outlined the vertical ones. My watercolor pad is 11 x 17 inches, so I began the (long) process of detailed painting.
To start, I sketched the largest flowers first, and built from the center outward. Since the flowers were varying shades of white and green, I emphasized the shadows with deep greens and a variety of leaves, which created a sense of depth. Smart Press printed the invitations on 110# linen paper, and each envelope featured gold calligraphy.
