Enchanted Fairy Baby Shower
by Anne Kostecki
I adored the opportunity to design my own baby shower invitation, hosted by my mother and sister-in-law. Both of them brainstormed the event theme and design, and came to me with their ideas: for the future baby girl, they envisioned an enchanted, fairy themed baby shower for spring. The event would be held in the Wine Room, a private event space in the restaurant Bishop's Post. The space is full of light, with green painted walls, dark brown trim and windowsills, and orb lights on the ceiling - perfect for a woodland fairy theme. The tables were to be decorated with pastel flowers and fantasy figurines, and each vase would be filled with moss and bright white fairy lights. The color palette would include blues, purples, and a bit of pink.
For the invitation design, I wanted to paint a fairy figure in acrylic, with a thick, painterly style. I spent some time sketching compositions, and drew a fairy holding a tree branch with additional branches framing the edges of the invitation. I painted the branches in metallic copper, and added metallic silver to the fairy's wings. I kept the color palette cool with blues, purples, and mint green to balance the femininity of the fairy theme.
The 5 x 7 inch invitations were printed digitally on opaque white 110# cardstock. I paired them with white Euro-flap envelopes in copper calligraphy, and enclosed a hand-written note requesting guests bring their favorite childhood storybook to add to baby's future library.
