Democracy in the Humanities Event

by Anne Kostecki

For the 50th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Humanities, Loyola University Maryland decided to hold a two day symposium celebrating "Democracy in the Humanities." The event was centered around themes of freedom, civil conversation, liberal arts, and bringing together the local community. The client wanted a handmade illustration inspired by these themes, with subtle references to American culture. First, I chose a color palette of a deep red, navy, pale gold and ivory. I contacted the illustrator Mick Wiggins and commissioned an abstract illustration, and I also designed a typography lockup with the typefaces Surveyor and Gotham. I brought all of the elements together for an invitation suite (invitation, inserts, envelopes), poster, name tags, slide template, digital signage, and other digital promotional materials.

The invitation suite was printed digitally on Mohawk Superfine Smooth Finish in White. The poster was printed digitally on Cougar Opaque White #80.
