Kate H. Wedding Portrait

by Anne Kostecki

A high school classmate of mine, Kate, contacted me about painting a custom watercolor portrait for her and her husband. Her mother was actually my high school art teacher! Kate had excellent photos and knew exactly what she wanted: the altar photo of her husband and herself, with the backdrop of the statue of St. Louis on Art Hill, with soft sunset lighting. I recommended a 14 x 20 inch size, to allow for the detail of the statue, as well as of her and her husband, to be seen given the scale difference between the two. The process of painting was straightforward, although it took some imagination to modify the lighting to be a bright, early sunset type of feel. She loved the final result and had it beautifully framed.
